Shinkyūsha

This "Sacred Stable" in Tōshō-gū's outer courtyard—the only building of unpainted wood in the whole complex—is crowned with relief carvings of monkeys. The allegorical "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" simians demonstrate principles of Tendai Buddhism and are Nikkō's unofficial symbol.
