Located just 5 miles outside of Belize City, this strange museum and adventure park was designed to provide hurried cruise-ship tourists with a neatly encapsulated version of Belizean history and culture. Somebody soon realized that most cruisers were more interested in sun and fun, so they built a beach (with requisite restaurant and beach bar). As demand grew for more action, Old Belize added a giant water slide, a towering swing and a train ride through the museum.
If you are in Belize for one day (as most cruisers are), Old Belize is a place that you can sample a little bit of everything. If you happen to be here for longer, there are plenty of places where the history and culture, sun and fun, and action and adventure are more authentic and rewarding. You will, however, have to venture further than 5 miles outside of Belize City.
