As one of the top 10 Harry Potter experiences in the world, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London has historically given lots of love to Gryffindor – and now it’s finally putting the house’s cunning, dark magic–loving counterpart front and centre.
Beginning 3 April and running through 6 September, the Slytherin common room will be recreated for tour guests for the first time ever. Featuring a 25-foot high section of the set dressed with authentic props and decor, like the fireplace and sofas that served as the site of Harry and Ron’s Polyjuice potion escapade in the Chamber of Secrets, the gloomy, mysterious room will be revealed in all its green and silver glory.
“When envisioning the Slytherin common room, production designer Stuart Craig wanted a very different atmosphere to the warm colours of Gryffindor so designed the set to look like a dungeon carved out of solid rock,” the company explained in a press release. “The hand-designed wall tapestries visitors will see had red tones completely taken out of the colour palette to add to the austere atmosphere and further highlight the iconic Slytherin colours.”
In the Great Hall, Slytherin’s banners will be strewn from the ceiling to announce a victory in the House Cup, while Gryffindor’s banners hang over the teacher’s table as a nod to their last-minute win at the end of the first film. The original costumes of powerful Slytherin witches and wizards will also be on display, from the Malfoy family to Lord Voldemort, with the clothes’ evolution mirroring the evolution of the characters themselves.
While the Slytherin common room is open to guests, the tour’s other attractions – the Forbidden Forest, Gringotts Wizarding Bank, a miniature scale model of Hogwarts castle – will remain accessible as well. Tickets for the tour must be booked in advance.
