Tigerair flights from Australia to Bali from next week will give passengers the opportunity to enjoy streaming of television programmes and in-flight movies. It will come via the Cloudstore by Arconics software system.
Australianaviation.com.au reports that the airline has gone its own way with its content delivery from media servers. Tigerair has teamed up with Cloudstore by Arconics which is slightly surprising as its parent company Virgin Australia uses BoardConnect by Lufthansa Systems.
The carrier is using the three Boeing 737-800s to operate from Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth to Bali.
Passengers will be offered a mixture of gratis and paid content. On offer will be home and international movies and television programmes. There will also be music on tap and real-time mapping to a flight’s destination. The company stressed that further features would be added on over time.
Adam Rowe, Tigerair commercial director, explained that the airline was out to give passengers “value and choice”.
In a statement, Mr Rowe said the CloudStore Wireless IFE solution was in sync with the carrier’s low-cost model.
He claimed that customer satisfaction was higher than it had even been with Tigerair and the most recent additions would give passengers top-class value in flight entertainment.
Niall O’Sullivan, the chief executive of Arconics said the Cloudstore system also offered airlines the opportunity to grow other revenue streams.
He said that people in planes now wanted the freedom to use their own devices to tap into entertainment channels. They also wanted to be able to check their usual communications sites and also wanted the facility to buy on-line.
