From the pristine, desert-kissed beaches of Almeria to the more crowded coasts of Alicante, Spain boasts beautiful shorelines, mountains, villages and resorts that make it a great destination to explore by campervan.
And now, it will be easier than ever, as rental company Camplify has just announced 160 local neighbourhood vans that will be available to rent from this month on.
One of Australia and the United Kingdom’s largest caravan, campervan and motorhome sharing communities (think Airbnb, but for homes on wheels), the company is branching out into Spain, allowing travellers interested in renting a vehicle to instantly connect with owners across different parts of the country.
“From locals keen to explore their own backyard and international holidaymakers seeking a new way to explore the diverse landscape and rich culture that Spain has to offer, we’re thrilled to help make the ‘vanlife’ experience accessible to all. We understand that campervan and caravan holidays enable you to head off the beaten and over-touristed tracks to explore some of the country’s show-stopping hidden gems,” Justin Hales, CEO and founder of Camplify told Lonely Planet.
According to the company, the campervan phenomenon has seen a sharp increase in recent times, with over 6.5 million Instagram photos being tagged #VanLife. British people have also expressed a desire for staycations in 2020, with 70% stating that they are planning a domestic trip, while 85% of people asked by the company said that they are hoping to take part in “live like locals” slow travel experiences. Camplify’s “try before you buy” ethos allows prospective purchasers to test out specific models that they may be interested in before committing to buying one themselves.
Camplify has recently partnered with Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España (Association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain) to develop content to inspire prospective visitors to head out on regional adventures. The company said that it had invested in resources to educate the community on sustainable practices like waste disposal, choosing appropriate camping locations as well as road safety.
