Shaker Heritage Society

The Adirondacks

Enthusiastic volunteer guides help bring alive the history of the nine original buildings and recreated herb garden that make up what was the first Shaker settlement in the US, established in 1776.

No Shakers have lived here since 1934 and the sect, members of which remain celibate, is on the point of extinction with just two believers living in Maine.
