St Patrick's Cathedral

Gracing an entire city block since 1875, this huge Gothic Revival church replaced a smaller one in Soho as the seat of the Archbishop of New York. With elaborate stained glass, enormous organs and grand bronze doors, it's a prestige spot for a wedding. In its crypt are buried all the state's archbishops, as well as one layman, the freed slave Pierre Toussaint, a champion of the poor who was declared Venerable in 1996. Audio tours are for $25.
