Wat Thammikarat

Ruins in Ayuthaya

To the west of Wat Ratchaburana, this is both an active temple and a pleasant place to sit among the ruins. The most prominent feature is a central chedi (stupa) surrounded by 13 singha (guardian lion) sculptures.

Local people believe the temple predated the Ayuthaya period, a claim unsupported by architectural evidence. It was first mentioned in written records in the mid-16th century.
