Meet your guide at a centrally located point in Lisbon, and then hop inside an air-conditioned minivan and travel to Peniche, a quaint fishing village. Here, a boat is waiting to take you and your small group to Berlenga Grande, a tiny island characterized by twisting rock formations and secluded caverns. Find yourself a comfortable spot on deck and relax as you soak up the sun and sea views. On arrival, after around 40 minutes, enjoy a brief break during which you can stroll along the beach or pick up refreshments (own expense) at a beachfront cafe. Then, board a smaller boat and cut through the dark-blue waters to St John the Baptist Fort (Forte de São João Baptista), a 17th-century stronghold constructed from the ruins of the island’s old monastery.Explore the site with your guide and hear stories of pirate sieges and foreign invasions. Discover, too, how the island is part of the Berlengas Nature Reserve (Reserva Natural das Berlengas) and home to thousands of nesting sea birds. After visiting the fort, spend around an hour wandering the nature reserve’s paths with your guide. Take in the UNESCO Biosphere Heritage–listed scenery and scan the sky for guillemots and other bird species.Back at the island’s port, enjoy free time for lunch at one of the seafront restaurants (own expense). Tuck into fresh fish and seafood dishes or, if you’ve brought your own food with you, head to the beach and eat al fresco. Alternatively, ask your guide for one of the provided snorkeling masks and dive into the calm waters for a look at life below sea level. When the time comes, join back up with your guide and small group. Then, should you wish, join in on an included kayak excursion to explore the island’s caves. If you’d prefer a less active activity, tour the caves in a small, glass-bottom boat. After your excursion, begin the journey back to Lisbon, where your day trip concludes with a drop-off back at the starting point.

Berlengas Tour

“Elected long time ago as the main location for diving with a hard hat in the Portuguese coast, the Berlenga waters hide everything the human imagination can create.  The Berlenga Island is about 7 miles from the Peniche Port ; it is 1500 meters long and 800 meters wide, with a perimeter of 4000 meters and reaches 88 meters at its highest point and –30 meters at its lowest. It is a region of great interest for botanical specialists with several endemic species and species of limited distribution.   A nesting spot for some species of ocean birds, and a passing point for several migratory species.  A Maritime Reserve of great wild life richness, particularly ichthyology.      The Berlenga Nature Reserve is a unique place due to its transparent sea and underwater treasures. It is a marine reserve and has been classified by the Council of Europe as a "Biosphere Reserve". The archipelago consists of a large island,Berlenga Grande, and some small granite islands and rocks, which are situated some 7 miles off the headland of Cabo Carvoeiro to the north-west of Peniche. The island of Berlenga Grande can be seen from the mainland when there is no sea mist. Here you will find endemic species of flora, as well as one of the preferred nesting sites for sea birds. Built on a rock adjacent to the Berlenga island and connected to it by a small bridge, there stands the Forte de São João Baptista, a Manueline military fortress built in 1502.The island’s tiny beaches with their clear blue sea are very beautiful and ideal for swimming and diving. Meet your guide in Lisbon's Restauradores Square and depart to Peniche in a climate-controlled vehicle, with WIFI and free water. Access to the island is by boat, with departures from Peniche harbor. It takes roughly 30 minutes to reach Berlenga Grande. For Lunch, there is also a restaurant on the island.  You will have of activities to do in the Island as your choice, like kayak, caves visit or a ride on a glass boat  and snorkling.  After, travel back to Lisbon, where your tour concludes with drop-off at the starting point.
