Aljibe is a legend in Havana: a restaurant whose original incarnation predated the revolution and whose second coming in the 1990s revived its most renowned dish, the obligatory pollo asado (roast chicken in a bitter-orange sauce), served with as-much-as-you-can-eat helpings of white rice, black beans, fried plantain, French fries and salad for only CUC$12.
Aljibe mark II has survived for 25 years. Even though it's run by the state, its consistent mix of quality food and zippy service is music to the ears of the diplomats bivouacked in the embassies nearby.
