A cat village has been set up in Antalya, Turkey, with villa-style houses, hammocks and playgrounds designed exclusively for approximately 100 street cats.

The village was built by the founder of the Street Animals Protection Association, Mehmet Orhan, his wife Müjgan and volunteers in the neighbourhood of Doyran.

In a very kind gesture, Mehmet sold his car to help raise money to build the colourful cat sanctuary.

He and Müjgan are originally from Istanbul. They were inspired by the Turkish comedy film, Mandıra Filozofu, to leave urban life behind to live in nature.

The village has 15 small cat houses and a number of bigger ones. Heating has been put in, and the houses have been designed to protect the kitties from harsh winter conditions.

The cats' veterinary care and treatment is taken care of at the village, and a natural spring provides them with water.

The animals play with toys and balls and chill out on cosy hammocks and colourful benches around the village.

The village has already become a hit with locals, who gather there at the weekends to hang out with the cats.
