Mundo Cuervo’s Jose Cuervo Express (also known as the Tequila Train) is a Mexican sightseeing train that operates on Saturdays, taking guests on journeys between the towns of Tequila and Guadalajara. As well as serving up the country’s most famous spirit, the train has just unveiled a new premium “elite wagon” that features educational tastings, a delicious cocktail menu and unlimited samples of tequila.

Priced US$166, the experience sees visitors kicking back to enjoy breath-taking views from the cabin’s extra-large floor to ceiling windows while sipping cocktails made with the company’s premium tequila, Reserva de la Familia. During the trip through the agave landscape to Tequila guests are served snacks and take part in entertainment that consists of mariachi and Mexican games, before visiting the oldest distillery in Latin America “La Rojeña” in Tequila.

The new wood-panelled Elite Wagon has been under development for eight months and has 37 spaces distributed across separate lounge areas that can be tailored for different sized groups. It also features an open bar where guests can taste a line of cocktails designed exclusively for the experience. It includes a three-glass educational tasting guided by a tequila expert featuring the company’s top offerings, as well as rum, vodka and whiskey.

“For the past eight years, the Jose Cuervo Express has been making regular trips between the city of Guadalajara and the town of Tequila, being the prime attraction for nearly 35,000 Mundo Cuervo visitors a year. The creation of a new luxury wagon was designed as an elevated way to experience the culture, cuisine, and of course the tequila of the destination. The new wagon is the only place guests will be able to enjoy the all-you-can-drink Premium Bar with Jose Cuervo’s Reserva de La Familia, the company’s flagship tequila brand,” Mundo Cuervo told Lonely Planet. More information is available at the official website.
