Musashi Mitake-jinja

Musashi Mitake-jinja traces its history back over a thousand years and was a popular pilgrimage site during the feudal era. It's sits atop Mitake-san (御岳山; 929m), commanding stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The wolf imagery stems from folklore in which a lost pilgrim was led out of a blanket of fog on the mountain by a pair of wolves, who were then enshrined as gods of the mountain.
