One of the most breathtaking beaches in all Greece, Myrtos Beach is a stunning expanse of broad white sand 10km northeast of Kefallonia’s narrow central isthmus. The only road access drops for 3km in sweeping switchbacks from Divarata, on the main road. Halfway down, a viewing area offers a first glimpse of the shimmering blue water far below. There are no facilities at the beach itself, which drops off sharply, but once you're in the sea it’s heavenly.
The limestone cliffs to either side are scarred by landslides from recent earthquakes, which have also for the moment blocked the road north from Divarata towards Assos.
