Calibishie is the main village on the scenic north coast with its dramatic mosaic of steep cliffs, red rocks and rivers gushing down from the mountains. The coast cradles some fine beaches, and although they can't compete with your usual white-sand wonders, they certainly have a mystique all of their own. No wonder many scenes from Pirates of Caribbean were filmed around here.
Although still sleepy and slow-paced, Calibishie has seen its tourism infrastructure grow in recent years and there are now some excellent places to stay and eat along the highway and in the hills. Even if you're not spending the night, it's a worthwhile stop for a meal and/or a swim en route to nearby Douglas Charles Airport.
