Welcome to Ærøskøbing
The utterly delightful little 17th-century merchants' town of Ærøskøbing has bucket loads of character. Its core is a triangular web of gently curving cobblestoned streets where crooked houses are cheerfully painted, gently skewed and gaily fronted with roses and hollyhocks. In half-hidden courtyards, hand-blown glass windows and low doorways offer tantalising glimpses into snug, private worlds. Outstanding accommodation, great cafes and alluring dining options, plus several little museums and a whisky distillery, all add to the magic. And with regular direct ferries to Svendborg, it's also the easiest town on Ærø for transport access.
