While the stunning landscape of Yellowstone National Park may currently be covered in snow, organisers are already busy planning for a summer full of interesting events. This week, it was announced that registration has just opened to the public for the popular summer field seminars that allow visitors to get involved in unique adventures and experiences led by knowledgeable guides.

Highlighting Yellowstone’s geothermal areas, eco-system, history and unspoilt wilderness, the summer field seminars are run by Yellowstone Forever, the park’s official non-profit partner, and include diverse activities that appeal to a range of interests, such as photography, wildlife watching, hiking and fly fishing. New excursions on offer this year include naturalist day trips (such as the moon and the stars astronomy trip and wonders of bird migration) as well as overnight stays at Lamar Buffalo Ranch.

“No matter what area of the park interests you, the Yellowstone Forever Institute can help you gain a deeper connection while you’re here,” said Robert Petty, vice president of education for Yellowstone Forever. “Warm daytime temperatures, abundant wildlife, and long daylight hours provide ideal conditions for exploring Yellowstone’s wonders.”

Running from May to September, the field seminars explore the park through a combination of on-the-ground excursions and engaging classroom presentations. Led by experts in their fields such as historians, artists, professors, scientists, and photographers, the educational experiences cover topics like the intelligence of animals like wolves and ravens, while adventure-loving types will be interested to try out Yellowstone by ski or snowshoe. Categories covered include art, citizen science, conservation, geology, outdoor recreation and plants.

Prices vary depending on the length of each experience and the level of guidance required.
