The recent visit of British royals, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, to Pakistan was a great success, and it achieved the couple's aim of showcasing the country's rich culture, diverse communities and beautiful landscapes.
Covering over 1000km, William and Kate's schedule included visits to hospitals, schools, religious temples, environmental projects and astonishing landscapes, and here are some highlights from the trip.
Margalla Hills National Park
William and Kate met with pupils from three local schools in Margalla Hills National Park, which is known for its rich flora and fauna and the diversity of its bird and animal species.
The 67.13-square-mile park incorporates the Margalla Hills, which form the foothills of the Himalayas, and it was established in 1980.
Pakistan National Monument
The Duke and Duchess attended a reception hosted by the British High Commissioner to celebrate the best of Pakistani music and culture at the iconic Pakistan National Monument.
The couple arrived by decorated rickshaw to the monument and heritage museum in Islamabad, which was constructed to look like four opening flower petals and symbolises the unity of the nation .
Chitral District
The royal couple travelled to the mountains of Northern Pakistan and visited a glacier in the Hindu Kush mountain range, situated in the Chitral District of Pakistan’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province. They visited a nearby valley in the centre of Chitral, where isolated communities have suffered from severe flash flooding in recent years as a result of nearby glaciers melting.
The royal pair were also treated to a colourful performance by a settlement of the Kalash people in the village’s stone amphitheatre.
Badshahi Mosque
After visiting SOS Children’s Village, a charitable organisation in the heart of the city established in 1977, the Cambridges participated in a cricket match at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. They also spent time with Prime Minister Imran Khan and visited the stunning Badshahi Mosque.
Their trip to the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre was particularly poignant, as William's mother, the late Princess Diana, also visited there in 1991.
