If the idea of staying at an exclusive private island appeals to you, you might be interested in hiring Kanu Island, a newly-opened hideaway located off the coast of Placencia in Belize.
The beautiful 2.5-acre coral island has five 1000-square-foot villas, and it accommodates up to to 14 adults and six children, making it perfect for family reunions and group stays. Each villa contains an air-conditioned master bedroom suite, high bamboo ceilings, large bathrooms with outdoor showers and custom local furniture. Some villas also have large soaking tubs and one has a loft for children.
The island comes complete with a white sand beach, private chef, maid service, concierge and laundry service. There's a huge palm-thatched central area that contains the living room, dining room, large bar and kitchen, flanked by the freshwater swimming pool, complete with swim-up bar.
The design palette incorporates coral stone and rosewood flooring, and entertainment options include Wi-Fi, flat screen TVs, kayaks and paddle boards, a ping pong table, pool table and lawn games.
The underwater sights include a fish-filled house coral reef just off the island, and a 20-minute boat ride transports visitors to the Belize Barrier Reef for an even more expansive look at the region’s famous aquatic ecosystem. A boat with a captain is available for local fishing and snorkeling close to the island, and a massage therapist is also available.
Kanu Island is available to rent from Vrbo and you can check it out here.
