Jet lag affects everyone differently, and as those who frequently travel can attest, it can be a serious struggle. With that in mind, a team of developers have created a dedicated app, built-in collaboration with world-renowned scientists, that works to help you fight the tiresome toll travel can take on your mind and body.

Called Timeshifter - The Jet Lag App, the programme is based on the latest research in sleep and circadian neuroscience. It utilises the same technology that astronauts and elite athletes use to perform at their best, and allows users to create their own personalised plans based on sleep pattern and itinerary, with optional preferences such as pre-travel adjustment or the use of melatonin for faster adaptation. Timeshifter was developed with Harvard Medical School Associate Professor Steven Lockley, a world-renowned expert in circadian rhythms, sleep, and jet lag, who works with clients such as NASA Astronauts and Formula 1 drivers.

“Timeshifter tackles the underlying cause of jet lag by literally helping you shift your biological clock to a destination’s time zone quickly—and, counterintuitively, this may even mean not sleeping on a long-haul flight,” said Susie Ellis, Chairman and CEO of Global Wellness Summit.

The app gives updated advice such as, “see bright light and avoid caffeine”, depending on the time zone and time of day. Users can input their “chronotype” (early bird, night owl or neither), and view the shifting time zones they are travelling through in real-time.

A brand new version has just been announced for iOS and Android devices, with updates including the introduction of multi-city trips, allowing users to add complicated itineraries, flight editing, quick trip entry and an improved user experience.
