Dublin is the setting for a new horror experience this Halloween, one that's dredged from the macabre imagination of Game of Thrones and Westworld director Neil Marshall.

Dublin is one of the best places in Europe to celebrate Halloween. Birthplace of Bram Stoker, the creator of Dracula and capital of the country that invented Halloween (history lesson here), every year it offers up plenty of spooky, spectacular treats across the city. The latest is a horror experience titled Kraken Screamfest: Director's Cut, which will see Emmy-nominated director Neil Marshall, team up with drinks brand The Kraken Rum to create a Halloween house (or rather bar) of horrors.

Marshall is known for directing films like The Descent and Dog Soldiers, as well as episodes of Westworld and Game of Thrones (he's responsible for Blackwater, arguably one of the best episodes of the HBO series) so he's well versed in the art of building suspense and generally scaring the bejaysus out of people.

"This will be a one-of-a-kind horror experience, inspired by the legendary sea beast, the kraken, giving people who love my films the opportunity to step into what lurks within my mind when it comes to these creative processes," said Marshall. "There are plenty of surprises up my sleeve, and I can promise that this will not be for the faint-hearted. The Kraken is famed for explosive experiences, and I'm excited for fans to see a little Hollywood magic sprinkled on its Halloween proceedings."

Set in a top-secret location (in the city centre), the experience will open on Thursday, 31 October and Friday, 1 November. Everything from the décor to the staff will be tinged with horror, as well as cocktails that look like they were conjured straight from a spellbook.

More information will be trickled out closer to the date. Tickets cost €10 and will include three "devilishly delicious" Kraken Rum cocktails. Tickets are available to purchase now on Eventbrite but attendees must be over 18. The experience is 60-minutes long and guests have been warned that some of it will be held outside so dress accordingly.
