Good news if you’re an Akon superfan; soon you won’t be limited to just concerts in order to get closer to him, because the performer and entrepreneur has announced that he is creating his own futuristic “Akon City” in West Africa. Designed to make transactions easier and less cash-dependent for citizens of Senegal, the destination will deal in a specially created cryptocurrency called Akoin.

There is also a website dedicated to Akoin where he lays out the benefits and plans ahead for the cryptocurrency.

The entertainer has previously invested in a diamond mine in South Africa stating that he wanted to change the negative image and reputation associated with the business, as well as launching a programme that is working towards providing solar power to developing countries in Africa.

Along with Co-Founder Kine Gueye Thiam, Akon’s charity Konfidence Foundation does works to help empower youths in Senegal.
