The government of Tajikistan has blocked access to several major social media sites, including YouTube and Facebook.
Tajik netizens reported on 25 August that the sites were blocked unless accessed through a proxy server. No reason was provided by officials as to why the sites were blocked, although Tajikistan has been known to block popular social media sites at random; it is believed the blocks relate to online protests and activities by opposition groups, those this has not been confirmed.
