Welcome to Lhaviyani
Quiet, delightful Lhaviyani Atoll is made up of 50 islands, only five of which are inhabited; a further eight are home to resorts. The capital, Naifaru, is well known in Maldives for making handicrafts from mother-of-pearl, a popular souvenir for visitors to the atoll. Fishing is the main industry here, and the island of Felivaru is home to Maldives' first tuna-canning plant, which opened in 1978. Tourism also employs many people, and more resorts continue to be planned and built.
