Otavalo Marketplace with Optional Lunch

Depart from Quito through the Pan-American North Highway until arriving to Cayambe, where the passengers will have the opportunity to taste the delicious “Bizcochos de Cayambe”, a type of cracker or bread baked in a clay oven (greatly paired with local cheese or caramel sauce).   Afterwards, we will make a brief stop at “Miralago”, to admire a wonderful view of Lago San Pablo, amazing views. The tour then continues to Otavalo where Otavaleños (natives) set up a market in which a bartering manner of shopping is taken place. The market hosts a variety of different handcrafted items. Passengers may choose between staying longer in Otavalo or go to visit to the leather shops at Cotacachi. On the way to Cotacachi, we will visit a traditional workshop of Andean instruments "Ñanda Mañachi" located in Peguche. In Cotacachi you have enough time to visit the village, the shops of leather goods and free time for lunch.  Return to Quito picking up passengers in Otavalo.

Otavalo Tour with Quito Tour Bus

This tour provides transportation from Quito to all attractions on this day-long tour to the Otavalo markets, Cuicocha lake and surrounding areas. The tour begins in Quito with a pickup at 9 am at Naciones Unidas Bulevar. ITINERARY: We arrive at the Quitsato Solar Clock located on the Equator. You will stay here for 45 minutes and board the bus again to head to the nearby Mirador de San Pablo Lago. Enjoy the view of the lake and after a short visit, you'll enjoy a taste of the best bizcocho pastry cake in the country.Then, we go to famous the Otavalo market, the largest indigenous market in South America, where you will have 2 hours of free time for shopping and lunch (on your own). Otavalo is world famous for its craft fair, offering countless products created by the hands of skilled and experienced craftsmen. In this market, you can find a variety of textiles, wood crafts, balsa carvings, key chains, jewelry, paintings, antiques and more.The highlight of this tour will be at the Cuicocha, the active volcano with a lake in the middle. We will take a boat tour traveling around the islets of the lake and explore the living species of this natural wonder.To finish the tour, we will walk to the Peguche waterfall. It's a spiritual place where the inhabitants go for a sacred bath on the eve of Inti Raymi. And if there is time, we will visit the workshop of Ñanda Mañachi, a family that crafts traditional musical instruments, including panpipes, charangos. Around 5 pm we will head back to Quito.
