Welcome to Intag Valley

Run in part by the Union of Peasant and Indigenous Organizations of Cotacachi, Intag communities have begun reintroducing native crops and medicinal plants that have been grown in the Andes for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. The aim is to increase agricultural biodiversity and maintain culinary traditions. You can see and taste the results by booking a stay in a rural, family-run lodge through Otavalo’s Runa Tupari.

Worth highlighting is the paving and improving of a road that cuts through the valley via Chontal and Nanegalito. It will make for a scenic alternative route for the journey between Otavalo and Mindo (without having to go through Quito).
