Welcome to Lastovo Island
Now that it's open for business it has become a favourite destination for clued-up yachties, who moor in its blissful wee bays. There's not as much appeal for land-based tourists, though, as there are no decent beaches and there's little to do. The main attraction is Lastovo Town, a striking collection of stone houses and aged churches clinging to a hillside in the interior.
Lastovo and the dozens of islets that surround it are now protected by the Lastovo Archipelago Nature Park, home to shearwaters, sea corals, sponges, lobsters, rare sea snails, dolphins, and loggerhead and green turtles.
