Qalat Arad

Fort in Muharraq Island

Built in the early 15th century by the Portuguese, Qalat Arad has been beautifully restored. There is little to see inside except the old well and the date-palm timbers used to reinforce the ceiling. Nonetheless, the location overlooking the bay makes it well worth a trip, especially at sunset, when the neighbouring park comes alive with locals.

From Manama, take the Sheikh Hamad Causeway and follow the signs along Khalifa Al Khebir Ave and Arad Hwy.
