Reflections on the Swan Tour

Back in the 1830's, the Swan River was the only means of transport from the tiny Perth settlement to Guildford some 15km upstream. The rich agricultural soils around Guildford offered great opportunities and ultimately led to the amazing wine growing region of the Swan Valley we know today.Around 9am, our tour begins at your designated pick up location or hotel in the Perth City area. We drive east along the northern banks of the Swan River, taking in views of the Matagarup Bridge and Optus Stadium. If you want to see kangaroos, this can be incorporated prior, with a 30 minute stop at Heirisson Island.Other significant stops include the Maylands Boatyard, (affectionately known as "The Boatyard of Broken Dreams"), Train, Toy and Natural History Museums which are all optional extras, subject to opening days. You can also stroll down the main Guildford street of Curios shops for a quirky range of gift shopping. The heritage listed Guildford Hotel built in 1886 is a magnificent building which survived a serious fire in 2008 and its restoration is impressive. A brief wander through is recommended, Lunch can be taken at any number of the highly recommended wineries within minutes of Guildford. For wine lovers, there is a huge selection in the nearby Swan Valley. For alternative taste options; chocolate, nougat and cheese factories are also close by.Following lunch, a small selection of iconic Swan Valley artisan destinations are on offer before heading back to Perth.

Swan Valley Wine Tour

We prefer to leave Perth City from your Hotel or designated pick up point around 9am.The drive to the Valley is only around 30 minutes so there can be time to take in a few of the sights along the Swan River and Guildford area. The wineries generally open from around 9.30am - 10am onwards. The large number of Wineries in the Swan Valley can make choosing a list quite tricky, so we recommend a range from the smaller boutique establishments to the larger estates.Importantly, this tour is yours. There is no bus full of strangers, no waiting around for others and you have the flexibility to stay or go whenever you like, and you can therefore see more of what you like. The larger most popular Wineries include Sandalford, Houghtons and Lancaster which all provide free tastings, but there are many more to choose from such as Lamonts, Faber, Upper Reach, Sitellas and Oakover. Then there are the Breweries and Distilleries which include Feral Brewing, Ironbark and Funk Cider, Old Youngs and Mash.Finding a place to eat is never difficult as there are so many amazing restaurants in the Region. We recommend looking at the options online prior to the Tour. This refines the search and your knowledgeable guide will also have advise to help create an awesome day for you.
