Scienceworks

Building view of Scienceworks, which administers the cultural and scientific collections of the State of Victoria. Melbourne, Australia.

Incorporating an old brick sewage-pumping station in Spotswood that resembles a French château, this engrossing museum (museumsvictoria.com.au; adult/child $15/free, incl planetarium $25/10) keeps inquisitive kids engaged with interactive science displays. There are plenty of buttons to push, levers to pull, flaps to lift and weird facts to learn. The on-site planetarium splashes the universe onto a 16m-domed ceiling during 40-minute shows. You could easy spend a couple of hours here.
