Welcome to Tonopah
The discovery of gold and silver ore in the mountains around Tonopah saved the state of Nevada from bankruptcy in 1900, and created a boomtown with fancy hotels, bars, brothels and more. Huge mine-head frames still loom in the mountains above town. But when the paydirt ran out, folks moved on. Had it not been for the devotion of its townsfolk, who've clung to their pioneering past and lovingly preserved the history of their town, Tonopah might have become a ghost town.
