Welcome to Manchester
Follow Hwy 1 north beyond Point Arena, through gorgeous rolling fields dropping down from the hills to the blue ocean, and a turnoff leads to Manchester State Beach, a long, wild stretch of sand. If you visit from October to April, you may spy gray and humpback whales during their annual migration. Part of the protected Manchester State Park, a 111-acre camping park, the area around here is remote and beautiful, with grazing land for sheep and cattle further inland and two freshwater streams noted for their salmon and steelhead (anglers take note). The population hovers around the 200 mark so there is not much here in terms of shops and facilities (only one grocery store), but it’s a quick 7-mile drive east to Point Arena with its shops, restaurants and appealing places to stay.
