Welcome to Hopland
Apparently using the most solar power per capita in the world, Hopland flaunts its eco-geek, green-living ways at every turn with more organic produce available than you can shake a carrot stick at, plus a sustainable-living demonstration site, complete with a bio-fuel pump that recycles vegetable oil from local restaurants! Hops were first grown here in 1866, but Prohibition brought the industry temporarily to a halt. Today, with its location as a gateway to Mendocino County's wine country, booze drives Hopland's economy again, with wine tasting the primary draw. Most of the tasting rooms are conveniently located right on Hwy 101, which runs through the center of town, and are generally small, boutique-style operations offering an enjoyable personalized experience.
