Sightseeing Tour : Guadeloupe's first inhabitants and colonization

You will begin this day by going to the municipality of Trois-Rivières which is named after the three rivers running through it. All three originate in the imposing massif of the Soufriere which dominates the whole island. Founded in 1645, the municipality covers an area of 31 km² and is home to around 9000 inhabitants. The strong elevation that characterizes it, its position in coast to wind and in South Basse-Terre, provide a relatively humid climate and explains a large variation in rainfall. Trois-Rivières also possesses an important Amerindian and colonial heritage. There are numerous engraved rocks concentrated around the Petit Carbet River and an architectural heritage witnessed from the colonial era still in very good condition. On the way, you will learn about the discovery of Guadeloupe by Christopher Columbus and the colonization. We’ll step back in time within a 2 hours hike along the coastline, to find out about the first inhabitants and an important heritage left by them. Then we'll continue with the visit of a former sugar factory and finish with a military battery with canon and powder house. If time allows, we will see some Amerindian basket waving with Arouman herb, this tradition continues to be held by the native and transmitted. (Most of the descendant of native tribe live in Dominica and have a territory on their own, some have move to other islands.). A lovely lunch will wait for you at the little port of Trois-Rivières. Then different options will be offered for the afternoon, either a swim on a beautiful black sand beach or in warm pool, the furthest south end point of the island in Vieux fort, a stop at the light house and/or Basse-Terre fortification.
