The construction of the US$350 million Serengeti airport, sponsored by US billionaire Tudor Jones, is set to start soon according to the government MP for the Serengeti constituency. Dr Kebwe also noted that compensation had been paid to those affected by the airport construction; the National Environmental Management Council and Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority have already approved the project. The Friends of Serengeti NGO has joined other voices in the conservation community to denounce the planned airport construction. Read more: allafrica.com
