Welcome to Leonidio
Leonidio, 76km south of Argos along a spectacular winding road, is dramatically located at the mouth of the Badron Gorge. In recent years the village has become a magnet for climbers who hang off the precipices and magnificent vertical rocks. Culturally, it’s famous for its Tsakonian aubergines (eggplants) and summer Aubergine Festival, Melizazz. Its tiny Plateia 25 Martiou is an archetypal, unspoilt, whitewashed village square. There are still living locals who speak the local dialect, Tsakonica, said to date back to the time of Sparta. Five kilometres north of Leonidio, the tiny fishing village of Plaka is a drawcard for those after stunning clear waters and excellent beachside tavernas.
