Welcome to Gambela National Park
But, for the moment at least, such bounty remains almost impossible to access. This is a very remote and swampy park with absolutely no infrastructure, which makes it an adventure of the highest order. Further, the animals are thought to be concentrated in the southwestern parts of the park – the swampiest, and hardest-to-reach area. Add to this continued local ethnic tensions and official suspicion towards anyone seeking to head out into what remains a sensitive border area, and conditions are clearly not ideal for wildlife tourism.
