Welcome to Pedernales
The coastal highway dead-ends in Pedernales, which is quite a friendly and pleasant place to spend an evening – as far as border towns go. Haiti can be reached via a residential street and border post about 1.5km from the center. Otherwise, the town is principally of interest to those who want to linger at Bahía de Las Águilas or in the national parks nearby, and those who want to take in the town's well-organized Haitian market on Monday and Friday.
Although it's rarely used by foreigners, this is by far the least chaotic and easiest-to-navigate border crossing. There's very little traffic and a minimal police and military presence.
