The winners of the Historic Photographer of the Year award have recently been announced by Trip Historic, the online travel guide to the world’s historic sites that’s behind the competition.

As the name suggests, the competition is aimed at those photographers capturing the best historic places and cultural sites around the world, since they are “among the most picturesque places to photograph on Earth”.

The competition has a main category and a subcategory dedicated to English history. In the gallery down below you can see both the winning images and a selection of the shots that were shortlisted.
