Welcome to Franklin
The town of Franklin (www.visitfranklin.com), 17 miles south of Nashville, has a charming downtown filled with boutiques, antique stores and lively eateries. Here one of the Civil War's bloodiest battles was fought. On November 30, 1864, during the Battle of Franklin, some 37,000 men (20,000 Confederates and 17,000 Union soldiers) fought over a 2-mile stretch on Franklin’s outskirts. Nashville’s sprawl has turned much of that battlefield into suburbs, but several historic sites spotlight this turbulent conflict. The rural community of Arrington, home to a popular vineyard, is 10 miles southeast of downtown.
