Welcome to Oswego
The approach to the port town of Oswego, with a giant steam power station looming on the horizon, isn't promising. However, once you're beside the mouth of the Oswego River as it flows into Lake Ontario, you'll discover there's a bit more charm than it initially appears. A fort has overlooked the water since the early 18th century and it's still the best place to take in the surroundings. There's some gracious heritage architecture in the downtown area, plus a youthful atmosphere and great bar scene thanks to Oswego being a location for one of the campuses of the State University of New York (SUNY).
