Welcome to Truth or Consequences
Home to New Age devotees, off-the-grid artists and ecowarriors, Truth or Consequences (T or C) vies for the title of quirkiest little town in New Mexico. This high-desert oasis was originally called Hot Springs, for the cluster of mineral-rich springs that line the banks of the Rio Grande hereabouts. It changed its name to match a popular radio game show in 1950, hoping to increase tourism. The geothermal energy in the vicinity is supposedly similar to Sedona's, and T or C’s shabby-chic double main drag – split into two one-way sections downtown, Main St and Broadway – is filled with crystal shops, herbalist offices, yoga studios, eclectic art galleries and off-the-wall boutiques.
