Welcome to Furka Pass
The daddy of them all is the Furka Pass, though, and driving or riding a motorbike over the pass is a popular activity – immortalised in the car chase in the 1964 James Bond classic, Goldfinger. You'll want to take great care on the countless hairpin corners of this curly mountain road, first opened in 1867.
These alpine passes are only open in summer, generally from 1 June. You can still get your vehicle from Valais to Andermatt in winter, though – car trains from Oberwald head through the 15km-long Furka Base Tunnel re-surfacing at Realp near Andermatt.
