8-Day Hiking Tour through the Carpathian Mountains from Sibiu

Day 1: Arrival in Sibiu Arrival in Sibiu. Meeting our English speaking tour guide at the airport. Transfer to Rasinari. Accommodation for 5 nights in a family guest house 3*. Dinner in Sibiu.Day 2: Rasinari – Fantanele – Sibiel (4 - 5 hours hiking)After exploring Rasinari, a village of shepherds, we will go to Sibiel. Afterwards we hike on the Fantanele Mountain. After a break in a rustic cabin in the mountains, we go back to Sibiel, where we visit the Icon Museum and where a dinner with Romanian specialities is waiting for us. Day 3: Rasinari – Magura Peak – Cisnadioara (5 - 6 hours hiking)All day long we hike: from the village Rasinari we head to the “Rose Garden”(1100 m) and to the Magura Peak (1300 m ). On our way to Cisnadioara we´ll reach the “Half-Stone” with fossils from the Limestone Age. Next we visit then the Roman basilica in Cisnadioara. Dinner at a peasant family in Rasinari where we return with a horse carriage.Day 4: Paltinis – Rasinari (5 - 6 hours hiking)Early, in the morning, we go by bus to Paltinis, the highest health resort in Romania (1.400 m). This is the starting point for an approximately 6 hour hike in the Cindrel Mountains. Our route leads us from Paltinis, trough Oncesti and Tomnaticu to Rasinari. On the way we stop for a picnic at the Wolf Garden. Dinner in Rasinari.Day 5: SibiuWe will drive to Sibiu with regional type of transport. There you have a sightseeing guided walking tour of the city. Free time in Sibiu. Dinner and overnight in Rasinari.Day 6: Rasinari – Balea Lac – Sighisoara – Biertan (3 hours hiking + 180 km driving)Today we will go to the highest Carpathians Mountains of Romania: Fagaras Mountains. Trip to the Balea glacial Lake (2.033 m). We can expect wonderful views on our 2 - 3 hours hike. After a picnic break at the Balea Waterfalls we continue our trip to Sighisoara, the most beautiful and well preserved inhabited citadel in Europe. Here we will see the 64 m high Clock Tower and the Museum of History. We will see Vlad Dracul`s birthplace and climb the Covered Staircase until we reach the Church on the Hill. Dinner and accommodation for 2 nights at the Pension in Biertan.Day 7: Biertan & the Transylvanian Saxons (4 - 5 hours hiking)In the morning we explore the UNESCO fortified church of Biertan. Then we`ll take a walk around the hills that form a unique landscape between the villages of the Transylvanian Saxons. On the way we have a picnic and we´ll visit some fortified churches. For dinner there will be barbeque in the courtyard of the castle.Day 8: Biertan – Medias – Sibiu (80 km driving)We will drive through Medias back to Sibiu. The arrival time is about 1 PM.

From Sibiu: Private Hiking Tour in the Carpathian Mountains

Your full-day adventure begins with a morning drive to the beautiful Paltinis mountain resort. The town is situated at an altitude of 1,448 meters, and is a 35-kilometer drive from Sibiu. This is where you’ll start your hiking tour through the dark forests of Transylvania to the Gaujoara Glade. From there, your tour guide will lead you up to the Oncesti Peak (at 1,725 meters), where you’ll have breathtaking views of the Transylvanian plateau. Next you’ll hike up to Wolf Glade, and after a picnic continue to Rasinari, a picturesque Romanian shepherding village in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. In Rasinari you’ll visit the Orthodox Mitropoly, the first of its kind in Transylvania, before heading back to your hotel in Sibiu.
