A former Portuguese stronghold, Kefamenanu is a quiet hill town. Still, it remains devoutly Catholic and has a couple of impressive colonial churches. Most importantly it's the jumping-off point for Temkessi, one of West Timor’s ‘can’t miss’ villages. Known locally as Kefa, the town lies at the heart of an important weaving region. Prepare to haggle with the ikat cartel. Note that the town mostly shuts up shop on Sundays.
