Welcome to Phyang
Pretty Phyang village is a large, green expanse of layered, tree-hemmed barley fields, 20km from Leh in the next parallel valley west. There's a big 16th-century Drigung-school gompa that has some fine old murals, while further up the western side of the valley is a fortress ruin and an ancient Guru Lhakhang that has some precious Alchi-style murals if you can find the key-holder. Bring a torch (flashlight). Phyang is an easy day trip from Leh with your own transport.
You're most likely stay overnight to unwind at the Hidden North Guest House, but there are also farmstay opportunities in several local homes.
