Hampta Pass Trek with Camping at Chandratal Lake and Trip to Kunzum La (6 Days)

ItineraryThis is a typical itinerary for this productOn the third day we are going to cross this high altitude pass at 4270 meters that connects the green Kullu valley with the barren high altitude dessert of Spiti valley. It's a steep ascent to the top and might take one up to 4 hours to reach it.Pass By: Hampta Pass, Manali, Manali Tehsil, Kullu District, Himachal PradeshAfter crossing the Hampta pass and coming down to Chatru, we'll drive from Chatru to Chandratal Lake. Arriving by the side of Manali-Spiti road at Chatru, we will stop here for tea and lunch break before driving to Chandratal via Chhota Dhara (3517 m) and Batal.From Batal onwards it can be very windy as the valley opens up here. The road climbs steeply around many bends to Kunzum La in the east. This road leads to Spiti valley. There is a new footpath leading from Kunzum La that descends to Chandratal, however the more direct approach is the road from Batal, going into the Chandra valley in the north. We will be driving along the left bank river Chandra after crossing a bridge near Batal. The drivers, travelers and passerby seeks blessings of Kunzum mata before undertaking the dangerous journey. This four-storyed structure lies amid a forest, called Dhungiri Van Vihar. The locals have named the temple on the name of the surrounding forest area. Dedicated to Goddess Hadimbi (wife of Bheem, one of the five Pandava brothers of epic Mahabharata), it was constructed way back in 1553. The top conical roof is in metal while the other three square-shaped floors are roofed with timbre tiles. There is also a 24 meter high tower.The temple has a wooden doorway and the mud walls adorn stonework. The door has elaborate miniature paintings of the Goddess, animals etc. The beam of the doorway has the Navgrahas (the) and female dancers from one of the stories of Lord Krishna. According to a legend, he used stones from the abandoned palace (Gardhak) of Rana Bhonsal to build the castle. He ordered the labourers to form a human chain over the Beas river connecting its left and right banks to transfer the stones manually. The castle survived the earthquake of 1905.
