Welcome to Charleville
Charleville is the grand old dame of central Queensland. Part of the Bidjara traditional lands, it's the largest town in mulga country, and gateway to the outback from the south. Due largely to its prime locale on the Warrego River, the town was an important centre for early explorers – Cobb & Co had its largest coach-making factory here. Despite a seemingly endless cycle of drought, the town has maintained its prosperity as a major Australian wool centre and has some fascinating attractions for travellers involving the night sky and the rare bilby.
