Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre

Museum in Cooma

You don't have to be an engineering tragic to be fascinated by the gargantuan feat of human endeavour that is the Snowy Mountains Scheme. This centre, 2km north of town, tells the story of its creation by way of a short introductory video and in-depth displays. Commenced in 1949, the hydroelectric scheme's seven powerstations, 16 major dams and 145km of tunnels took 25 years and more than 100,000 people to complete.
