Welcome to Northern Louisiana
Make no mistake, the rural, oil-industry towns along the Baptist Bible Belt make Northern Louisiana as far removed from New Orleans as Paris, Texas, is from Paris, France. There's a lot of optimistic tourism development happening out this way, but at the end of the day, most folks come here from states like Texas and Arkansas to gamble. The landscape here is pretty reminiscent of East Texas – rolling green countryside and pine woods as far as the eye can see. The culture isn't too far off from Texas either – the TV show Duck Dynasty, which has a firm finger on the pulse of red state America, was filmed out here. There's a high value placed on the church and firearms, more or less in that order.
